66Cipla ipill is is a single dose emergency contraceptive that provides a safe and easy way to prevent unplanned pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure.
Some people refer to the ipill as the "morning after pill."It can also be used as a back-up birth control method under some circumstances such as: contraceptive failure; unprotected sex; improper use of regular birth control method and forced sex.What it does: the ipill prevents the ovulation, fertilization or implantation of the egg in the uterus. Preventing that from happening prevents pregnancy.When the i-pill should be taken: this medication should be taken as soon as possible after unprotected sexual intercourse - preferably within 24 hours and no later than 72 hours.How effective is the ipill? If you take the ipill within 24 hours of unprotected sex, is is 95% effective.Important things to remember:The ipill is not an abortion pill. The ipill is ineffective if the patient is already pregnant. It will not end a pregnancy that has already begun.
The ipill does not protect against or prevent HIV/AIDS or other S.T.D.s. Abstinence is still the best protection or if you are sexually active, use a condom!

Yes, it is safe if she takes another i-pill. Be sure the i-pill is taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. For best results, the i-pill should be taken within 24 horus of unprotected sex.The earlier, the better.Also, avoid taking i-pill at frequent intervals since it is an ECP
My girl and I had unprotected sex for the first time. We did it just after she had finished her periods. But to avoid pregnancy, she had an ipill within the 72 hours time frame. She had bleeding on the 4th day from the day she took the pill. As per her normal cycle she should have had her periods on the 1 or 2nd Feb which she skipped. I had unprotected sex two nights consecutively. I took an ipill 3 hours after the second night (24 hours after the first). And after taking the ipill I ate some food. Will it be any less effective? And is it ok to consume more than one ipill within the 72 hour period?

If your periods resumed, then you're defnitely not pregnant. During pregnancy, a woman does not have her periods at all. The delayed periods are because of the side-effects of the i-pill.

Hey Doc... me and my Gf had unprotected sex just after her periods elapsed on the same day (July 31st) and she took an ipill the next day (Aug 1st) which is around 17 hours after we had unprotected sex and another two ipills on the 2nd and 5th of August (total of 3 ipills), she experienced bleeding around 7 days after she took the ipill (i.e 7th of Aug) which lasted for around 4 days (till the 10th of Aug) and she said the bleeding was heavy and like normal periods.
She last got her normal cycle of periods on the 24th of July (8 days before we had unprotected sex) and she has not got into her periods till now (7th of Sept) which is 30 days after she got her bleeding (after taking the ipill) and around 45 days from her normal period cycle (24th of the Month).
She performed a Home Pregnancy Test (HPT) on the 4th of Sept (3 days back) and the result was -ive, she again did the HPT today (7th of Sept) and the result was -ve again , i am tensed and would like to know the reason why her periods are delayed, is there a possibility of pregnancy and what are the chances, what should we do now... thanx

I had unprotected sex with my fiance on 19th and took ipill within 12 hrs of the act.
After that I spotted for 3 days starting from 24th March to 27th March.
This might be an indication that the pill worked as spotting is one of the side effects of ipill.
I am confused about the dates..

Plus if you had unprotected sex i.e without condom then YES u may get pregnant..

So first remove negative thoughts that you mite be pregnant. Because that might delay your periods adding more to your tnsions.

Hi, Me and my gf had a unprotected sex for some time while we started and then I used condom to get protected. I ofcourse ejected in condom itself. It was on 9th May. But, as we were unsure, she took I-Pill on 9th May itself after 3hrs of sex. if you have taken the pill "within 48hrs" then you are safe...u mite get ur next period a bit late than usual so dont worry abt that.
-Unsual feeling like headache and other side effect "MIGHT" be seen depending upon ur body.

Well your big mistake you did not use any protection.
so, since you took the pill withing 24hrs, your chances of getting pregnant is low.
Two reasons of your delayed periods:
1. Ipill delays the period by 1-2 weeks..if more than this ..thn you shud visit a doc/gynaec
2. "dying due to worry" ..this is the second reason...Taking too much STRESS will definetly delay your normal periods..YOU NEED TO RELAX....
If you want to confirm whether you are pregnant or not
take a home pregnancy test..
IF you are expecting your periods by now...drink 2 glasses of sugarcane juice every alternate day..
the periods will eventually come..

Oh that means you did not take the pill after the first intercourse. See even if he didn't ejaculate inside, still there are some pre-cum that may go in which has "some" risk of getting you pregnant.

The only way to confirm is to take a home pregnancy test.
The sugarcane juice will help as it will increase body heat and eventually lead to periods to come.but since it is already delayed so much, i recommend you take a test that will definetly clear thigs out. it is easy to take a HPT as it is available in any medical store.
One more thing. in the earlier post you said you experienced some blood for 10mins.
if it was like a normal periods then you are not pregnant definelty, even it was for 10mins but the flow must be like you always have.

As you are planing to take a visit to the doctor i guess that is the wisest thought from you side as he will tell you better which "one" to take to avoid any side effect from the already taken i pill. @priti- It may fail, but in your case i don't think so that it might have failed as you took it within 2 hrs plus the symtoms are visible depending upon your body and willpower. Some can bear it others may not. Those are "possible" side effects, "not necessary" that everyone should get those symtoms. Only once your periods actually comes, you may know that the pill has worked. anyways your safe So Relax.

Sorry for the delay...been busy... i myself don't think it would be a good idea to take the prepone tablets as the pill mite already delay her periods for sure..plus i never heard such cases where taking both pills for their individual uses may leave a side effect, but i think it is not safe to take so. although i m not a doctor still i prefer not to go for it..as the ipill has stronger effects. for the sake of the girl, i don't think taking the preponing tablets is good, but i m sure the i pill will delay her periods by one week.
@ archana: YES, there would be a lot of problems with your body regarding hormonal imbalances if you take more than 1 pill...THESE PILLS are very strong and dangerous to the body. IT is to be taken ONLY IN EMERGENCIES and not a substitute for condom.
So PLZ AVOID taking pills frequently.

i Dont know if you are a non vegeterian, but if you are.eat lots of chicken, of these all.. the SUGARCANE juice is a must.. Everyday a glass or two should do the trick.
If still no result of the periods to come.
Take a home pregnancy test.
Make it a point that the Home pregnancy test is to be taken 20 days after the activity,
So sugarcane juice and other things i mentioned if possible,
Or the better take a test and plan accordingly..

@divya: No need to be tensed.. the pill will delay your periods by 2 weeks max.
The home pregnancy Test MUST be taken after 20 days of the act.
You took the test in 4 days. Hence it will not show the right result.
So all in all, no need to worry your periods will get delay which is natural after taking the pill..No need to be tensed "you will not get pregnant".
Do one thing. Drink a glass of sugarcane juice every alternate day. Your periods will come within days.
Relaxx..do not stress too much or else your periods will get even more delayed as stress delays the periods.
YOU ARE SAFE..just drink a glass of sugarcane juice every alternate day and dont be tensed, you'll get your periods

I took 2 Ipills in the month of May in a gap of 15 days... one on May 1st and the second one on 15th May laterafter that i got my periods on May 31st which was regular. after that i got my periods after 22 to 25 days or so.. with almost no bleeding... then i got my periods on 30th July with very heavy continuous flow for 15 days.
One more important thing i would like to mention is that, during june and july, i was travelling continuously and i could not take sufficient rest.
That was the first time i took ipill in may. earlier to that my periods were very punctual. Now im very scared what will happen to my next periods. will 2 ipills in a month cause any serious problems? If yes please tell me what are they? i read from your comments that after ipill intake periods will be irregular. In my case how long it may take for me to return to my normal periods cycle. Please let me know what i can do to return to my normal cycle.

It'll take at least 3 months (depending on your body) to get back on track with the regular dates of your periods.
I had similar experience. I'd taken two pills within 10 days. The periods may get delayed/preponed. The flow might be heavy or low.
You may not have the same dates of your periods again.
ipill is like an overdose of hormones. So it'll take time for your body to get back to normal.

DO NOT WORRY first of all.
vaginal bleeding is common after intake of the pill.
You shall expect your period after a delay of 1-2weeks after your actual date count. for eg: if you are expecting your date (on usual period count) on say 30th of this month,then add 7 to 14 days more and that will be your day on which you will be expecting your periods.
In short a delay of 2 weeks MAX...

Intake of such high dosage of hormones regularly will definitely affect the future pregnancy.
Ipill is meant for emergency purpose ONLY and not regular usage.
It's healthy and advisable to avoid such instances where you might have to take ipill or any emergency contraceptive.
If you're married, you can ask your gyneac about BCPs (birth control pills) that avoid the chances of pregnancy. But that again doesnt mean you can have unprotected intercourse.
About your menstrual cycle, give your body some time :-).
Say 2-3 months.
It has gone through a lot with ipill intake.
No specific foodstuffs for such purpose as such.
But I would recommend good work outs in gym, or taking up yoga and having healthy food (fruits , juices, proteins, green leafy veggies)

Bleeding is common in some girls, however you need not worry much. If the bleeding and ITS FLOW is like the one like during your periods then it may be your periods..as some ladies experience quick effects and the period is experienced within days.So just make sure it is like the usual one..if not then dont worry the bleeding is common...u will experience delayed period

@ Aliya : Some girls experience bleeding in 5-7 days of consumption of ipill. It is a side effect of ipill. ipill is one dynamite of hormones. Our body is not used to such high levels of hormones. And that's why it leads to this bleeding. It could be like your usual periods or just spotting that can happen for few days. So dont worry, if that has happened,it means the pill has worked properly. :)
Also, do not expect your next periods on the same date as last time. They may get delayed.
Eat small amount of unripe Papaya 2-3 days before your expected date of periods.

I dont really see any logic behind it! Condoms hardly cost anything! And the reason they're cheap is to encourage people to use them!

3) You also may not know what exactly are the changes going on in your body in adolescence.
The hormone levels may be high or low and taking an ipill is quite unadvisable; and so is having sex.

Me and my gf had unprotected sex on Aug 13 and within 14 hours time (on 14th morning) , she took ipill. She generally has regular periods on 1 st week of every month (this time also 3rd Aug, 10 days before unprotected sex), but after 7 days of taking ipill (on 21st Aug) she started bleeding (more than normal) and it lasted for 5 days (usually lasts 3-4 days). Is it normal period? Also she is supposed to get next period on 3rd of Sept, but till date (5th Sept)no sign. Also her breasts also got a bit fatty. Is she pregnent or this is the effect of ipill? How long should she wait for next period? Or should go for pregnancy test? Both worried.

@Sandy : Yes Sandy it's normal. Do not expect your body to respond exactly the same way when i pill is taken. Because the natural level of hormones at the time you took the pill also matters. U might have one side effect and another later.
Also, do not expect your next periods to arrive on previous date. It might just increase stress levels!
Just eat healthy and have a good exercise.

It worsens things. To me, the situation looks pretty normal. The bleeding she got is a side effect of ipill like Sandy. And when all of that blood is already discharged from her uterus, how do u expect the next periods to come at the usual time.
Remember that with normal menstrual cycle, it takes almost one whole month for the blood to get accumulated. Once, full and unused (i.e no pregnancy) it is discharged out.
When your girlfriend has already bled for 5days,do not expect her to bleed again in just 5-6 days!
She can have her next period close to around 25 days after the day she started bleeding because of ipill (i.e. 21st August)
So, ask her to relax ! :)
At least she's not facing unwanted pregnancy now!

I recommend you to take those tests atleast(min) after 14days from the day of consuming the pill i.e after 2weeks from the day you took the pill...
Any test to prove successful after taking the pill you need to wait atleast 15-20days for the "accurate" results to come out.

@riya: taking another pill would damage your hormonal balance badly. so recommend you not to take another pill as the earlier pill will do its effect if the 2nd act was within the timeframe of 48hrs.

@arnav: it doesn't matter if the intercourse is for the first time or 10th time. There is ALWAYS the chances of woman getting pregnant if and when there occurs an act of unprotected intercourse. Or like in your case,in which there is a high risk of the lady getting pregnant.
Eating those papayas can only help but cannot guarantee 100percent.
As for her date to come..only thing you can do is wait..and if possible plz do a Home pregnancy test.. you said itz been 15days now, wait for 5-6days more and then do the test for confirmation.
Other than that, eat papayas and drink sugarcane juice.
Hope that would "lower" the risk of pregnancy.

@iyer: if you had an unprotected sex ,there are chances of the lady getting pregnant even if ejaculation does not take place. The risk is high if there was a penetration

@Sri : One ipill is equivalent to a 30 day dose of regular birth control pills. So u can imagine,if u have taken 2 ipills in 2 days, your body must have been under great pressure with this huge amount of hormonal chaos. That's the reason u might have got the abdominal pain. You're not pregnant for sure. But from what u have told, it seems u might have caught STD (sexually transmitted disease). Please get a urine test done for the same and ensure u take right medicines to avoid any complications later.
Also, please read out about the side effects of ipill.
Your periods will also be disturbed ... you might have delayed or early periods that may be lighter or heavier than usual. It'll take at least 3 months for your body to settle down with the huge hormonal dosage (ipill) and get back to normal cycle n flow.
Just a word of caution : Never ever put your body thru this again. It may / may not affect ur fertility later in life.

stephanie, chances of you being pregnant are very less since you took the pill within 72 hours and it wasnt your most fertile period. You should get your period within a week, if not then you can get a bloodtest.

@desperate and harrowed : You're absolutely safe and you're not pregnant for sure. Taking ipill within 12hrs of the act is 95% effective. As u go on increasing the gap between the time of act and taking ipill,chances of ipill working effectively reduces. I would suggest reading that small guideline note that's wrapped in ipill packet. If that's not available, you can chech out the same info online as well on ipill website.
The bleeding / spotting that you're observing is just a side effect of ipill. It actually means that the pill has worked just fine. :-) Also, you should not expect normal dates for your regular periods now. Intake of ipill disturbs the periods in terms of the dates / the flow / duration for around 3 months. After that your cycle will settle down to normal.
So just relax and take good care! :-)
@Stephanie: Because you've taken the ipill after 12hrs of the act, ipill could be a little less effective. I would suggest eating raw papaya (as raw papaya acts as a natural abortifacient).
The symptoms that you told are a side effect of ipill.
So dont worry about it.
Also, like i told "desperate and harrowed", your periods will be little disturbed for another 3 months.

Normally,ipill taken within 24 hrs of the act will be 85% effective as written in the note in ipill pack.
The cycle could be pre-poned or delayed with heavy or lighter periods. It'll take max 3 months for the cycle to get back to normal.
@Sri: Good your pain during urination reduced. But i would still suggest to get a test done for STD and be assured that everything is okay.
I wouldnt say 'never' to use the pill.:-) I would rather say use it only when there's an emergency. And it should not become a habit(like you took it twice without any knowledge of its effects)
I personally dont think your fertility would be affected.

It is just the ipill delaying it and its natural so just relax. No need to worry. Make it a point that she doesnt take much stress as it would unnecessarily delay her periods even more. As stress is one of the reason for delayed periods.
@SR: AAbdominal pain is an effect of the pill so you need to get that thing out of your mind that it might be symptom of pregnancy.

@azurath : If the flow was just as same as her regular periods then your case is safe. Her Next Period will be delayed by max 2 weeks
So relax.
sv : Since you haven't yet taken the pill, there might be some chances of pregnancy as the precum too has some sperms that may swim out to reach the egg. Just to be sure do a Home Pregnancy Test after 20 days of the act to be sure abt the same. It is always risky to have an intercourse without the use of condom.

Well whether he ejaculated or not, chances are always high during an unprotected act. I recommend you to eat raw papayas and drink sugarcane juice every alternate days AND DO TAKE A HOME PREGNANCY TEST after 21 days of the intercourse to confirm pregnancy or not.

@Debatri : taking ipill regularly is harmful on the long run, it causes hormonal imabalances and may affect future pregnancy. takiing ipill shud be only in emergencies and not as a subsitiute to condom. google side effects of ipill and you will have a detailed list of the same to understand more.

@deepti: You may Relax, you re safe, no need to take further steps. your next period would be delayed by max 2 weeks. If you get worried abt the delay, do a home pregnancy test after 21 days of the intercourse to confirm it,.

@help: it is not necessary to bleed 3-4 days after taking the pill to ensure safety. If your periods have still not come. Drink a glass of sugarcane juice every alternate day..it will come. your period will be delayed by max 2 weeks from the expected date. So need not worry,

@Shinchan: 4TH pill since july,.... my god one pill every month, thats not good for your health, it will hamper you hormones, future pregnancy and much more plz stop taking it henceforth. For now Dont worry, u wont get that far, Unprotected is always risky no matter however you might try to avoid it. Use a condom, it is way better than having all these tensed moments, and i m sure you'll thank me, just drink that juice, n dont stress much, stress will eventually delay it even more. start drinking it from tomarrow

@Pria: i-pill is effective if you have had sex several times over a short period. But care should be taken that all acts have occurred within 72 hours before taking i-pill.
Although it is not advisable but i think you would have to take another pill. It is very harmful to take pill in such short gaps but as u had unprotected sex, the consequences also need to be beared by you after taking the pill once again. As the pill not only will delay your periods but also create hormonal imbalance for a a while.
Rest the choice is yours.

@priya: If you felt something WET, then yes IT IS PRECUM and precum contains sperms. And it may cause pregnancy.
If the time of taking the pill has already gone, make sure to drink a glass of sugarcane juice every alternate day as you approach the date of your periods.
Although i m sure you wont have to go far till taking abortion pills, still do take measures.
If your periods gets delayed (assuming that you have not taken the pill) make sure do a home pregnanct test after 21 days of the act, to confirm everything.
Although i am sure you are safe still take necessary steps as mentioned.

@darky: No it is NOT necessary that the pill would show it effects, to be more clear, it has no visible symtoms. Headache , body pain, nausea etc are assumed to be its effects but it differs from person to person. Some may experience it while MANY others may not.
SO it is not neccessary that there must be some sign so that it is confirmed pill has done its job.

@lucifer: did not understtod your questions.. what does menses mean, i am not aware of that term. Do you mean her menstrual cycle?
@xyz: if it is delayed by 15 days that brings it to 2 weeks ...so tell her to drink a glass of sugarcane juice every alternate day.
As for the menstrual cycle. it will be counted from the date she now get the date from. That mean ait will be her new cycle. however depending upon the body and the effect of the pill... it will over the time come back to her earlier cycle. But i will take time.
@darky: 2-3 days is enuff for it. as it was preponed and forced period as the pill works for the same reason... It depends upon body to body...

So need not worry. give it a time by eating healthy, staying healthy, exercising n stressful situations, with these all the unusuality will come back to normal over the time. But for now such things will happen as it depends from body to body person to person.

Secondly, periods cannot come in day or two after taking the pill. It will come after a delay of max 2 weeks from the expected date of her period. So her periods will come after the usual day of her periods.

@gal since you had sex you are not virgin now, after taking the pill there is very less chance of pregnancy, but as you mention is was the first day of ur period on 4th, so chances of pregnancy are null after periods, so relax you are safe, ur periods will be prepone or postpone depending on ur body, however it has been seen that periods get prepone if pill consumed on first 14 days, so chill, relax

So don't worry, it is natural for her periods to get delayed...it will take time for the cycle to come back to normal. till then delay in periods will be common.

@Anshu: Basically the discharge and the spottings are basically THE EFFECTS of the pill taking place within your body. IT CANNOT BE SAID THAT THESE ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS.
Basically, you must understand, the pill is "stopping the process of pregnancy". THATS A BIG DEAL. now some "thing" doing such a BIG THING must leave something behind... so these spottings n all are such minor things that have to be accepted as a good thing and not bad, so that it may lower your stress level.since the pill DOES NOT have any prooven symtoms to comfirm whether the pill is doing its job within the body.

Your periods will come by max 17th of this month i.e till tuesday.. START DRINKING THE SUGARCANE JUICE DAILY till tuesday.

Relax a bit...you have time as to your individual dates i mentioned for the periods to come respectively,

There is very little to worry.
It is not always necessary for the pill to show its effect on your body with multiple signs. It depends on the body, life routine, mental stability of an individual. So it may OR it may not show its effects, as it is not necessary either for the effects to show up.
Dont worry, your periods will be delayed by max 2 weeks from the expected date i.e 24th.
Do not stress too much as it wud further delay it even more as stress is the major reason for delayed periods.
YOU are not pregnant, the pill will do its work.
@sanjana: Do a home pregnancy test, making sure you do the test the first thing in the morning, the first piss will show you the accurate result.
Do it as early as possible.

@troubled003: you take it for a reason or for no reason, the pill will do its work of altering the hormonal imblance of your body and that is the reason the pill is not to be taken.. BUT only in emergencies.

Wait for few more days, the delay in period is because of the pill, even there are many other reasons for the delay of periods ,its not just because of the pill, so relax since you had sex on the safe day plus you took the pill so you are definitely not pregnant

@nk i wish there was a safe day , but the fact is there isnt a single safe day , always use condoms. if you wanna have unprotected sex , use single time contraception pills(IPill is Emergency Contraception Pill,should be taken in only emergencies),however they would not provide as much safety as condoms, and condoms also keep you away from STDs

@worriedsick there is no chance if you have got your periods , the periods stop when one is pregnant because the blood is needed for the child and the egg is already in womb stage , so if you get ur periods you are not pregnant , you can google it too :)

@pikeynoon the ecp contains high amount of hormones which avoid pregnancy , so taking them in such a small gap is not recommended , it will harm your body , it will take sometime for the hormone level to be normal again, till then take care
@clynn if you ejaculate and touch her with your fingers , sperms will enter her vagina, however if you have given her the pill , you need to relax, and as said earlier, tell her to relax as the pill postpones the periods by max2 weeks , if you guys wanna relax do a HPT early in the morning, i am sure its negative.

@J the pill will do its work , its very very rare that the pill has failed, all the things you mentioned may be due to the pill, why not take a home pregnancy test to be sure?

@urgent after giving her the pill there is nothin that you can really do than to sit and wait, the pill delays the periods,till than give her sugarcane juice to keep her body warm

@urgent you can relax , you wont get pregnant , if you think about it more , it will be delayed more, so relax and the periods will come within 1 week from the due date

@robben you should wait for few more days , then see a doctor, there may be other problems also , tension is one of them
@priya you cant get aids with known partner, your delay is also cause of worry , if you dont get periods in 3-4 days see the same doctor again, keep us updated

@shweta u need not take the pill , as the first and last 7 days are considered safe , but there is still a very very small chance always ,but i suggest you not to take the pill
